John coordinates player participation in all Lucky 13 mini camps, and showcases, as well as organizing the Storms own student-athlete showcase event.. He also serves as one of the Storm Academy's lead pitching instructors.
Mangieri has been a mainstay in the Storm organization for over 12 years both as a player and coach.Mangieri heads the 17-18u showcase team which participates in elite tournaments throughout the country as well as local leagues throughout the NYC area to maximize player exposure. In 2009, as coach of the Storm's 17u team, his team to the 2009 LIBA Fall Championship and took his summer team to the NABF Regionals in Virginia where they posted a 3-1 record. His team compiled a 34-14 mark in the summer and fall.
As a player, Mangieri was drafted by the Mets in the 11th round of the 1997 draft during his junior campaign at St. Francis College and played in the Mets organization from 1997-2000. He also played minor league baseball with the Reds (2003). John finished his career with the Marlins in 2006 after being scouted and signed by Marlins GM Dan Jennings. Between organizations, John played in the Atlantic League where he was an All-Star with the Atlantic City Surf (2001), and also had stints with Bridgeport and Pennsylvania (2001-02). He also played international ball with the San Marino Titans of the Italian League (2002, 2004, 2005), Rotterdam Holland and Havana Cuba (2003), Team Italy in the inaugural World Baseball Classic (2006), Uni President Lions in Tainan City Taiwan (2005) and the European Cup (2002, 2005). He received the Cy Award in 2002 in Barcelona, Spain and was named 2004 Italia Cup MVP. He was also selected to the 40-man roster of the Italian Olympic team ('04).
Mangieri has also gained a lot of coaching experience by the managers he played for. Many were former MLB coaches and players: Sparky Lyle, Mitch "Wild Thing" Williams (currently of MLB Network), Tommy Helms, John Franco, Bob Stanley, Tim Naehring (NY Yankees Minor League Coordinator), Wayne Rosenthal (Florida Marlins Pitching Coordinator), Jose "Chico" Lind and Butch Hobson. As a player, Mangieri had numerous MLB teammates including Mike Piazza, Frank Catalanotto, John Franco, Jason Grilli, A.J. Burnett, Jason Isringhausen, Rickey Henderson, Rick Vandenhurk, and Todd Hundley.
Mangieri's career highlights include competing against Ryan Braun (Brewers), long time NY Yankees Brett Gardner, striking out former MLB slugger Jose Canseco during his '01 campaign and recording the last out against Kendry Morales (Royals) while earning the save in the Storm's upset victory of Team Cuba in Havana in 2003. John had the fortune of representing Team Italy in the 2006 World Baseball Classic and playing alongside future Hall of Fame catcher Mike Piazza.
Mangieri attended St Francis College on a full athletic scholarship an still ranks as the Terriers highest drafted player. He served as the school's first junior captain and earned a degree in Physical Education. He went on to earn a Master's degree in Sports Management from Adelphi University. He currently works as a physical education teacher at Channel View School for Research in Rockaway Beach Queens and is head varsity baseball coach and head of baseball operations. In 2014 John led the Beach Channel Dolphins to its first PSAL city title held at historical Yankee Stadium after taking the program over four years ago. It was the Dolphins first city championship in school history and had a roster of only 12. John founded Lucky 13 Baseball LLC - Independent Recruiting Service.
He attended Archbishop Molloy High School and was named the MVP of the City Championship in 1994 with a stellar 2 double-4 RBI-game-winning RBI at Yankee Stadium. From 2007 to 2009, John coached his alma mater's baseball team. He also coached a 17-18u showcase team to their third fall championship in a row.
Mangieri grew up and still resides in Howard Beach with his wife Graziella, son John Paul and daughter Victoria.
